The Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) has determined that advertising for MEGA Brands, Inc., “Dragons Universe” construction sets could, through the use of computer-generated imagery, mislead children as to the capabilities of the advertised toys. -
7/18/2019 - CARU Finds Snap, Inc. Complies with COPPA. Company goes beyond minimal procedures to prevent under-age use.
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) found that Snap, Inc. (“Snap”) takes effective measures to ensure that under-age children do not use its service. After carefully reviewing Snap’s procedures, CARU held that the company goes beyond the minimum requirements and incorporates higher-level safety design features to ensure that under-age children are not able to use Snapchat. -

3/05/2019 - Self-Regulatory Watchdogs Refer App Developer HyperBeard to Federal Trade Commission
Two industry self-regulatory units of the Council of Better Business Bureaus today referred the mobile app developer HyperBeard to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for failure to participate in a self-regulatory review process looking into data privacy practices related to children and advertising.
