DSSRC Administrative Closure #135

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) contacted a direct selling company (“Company”) regarding two social media posts disseminated by its salesforce members, one found on YouTube and one found on Facebook. The subject claims and social media posts came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace.

DSSRC was concerned that the two health-related claims conveyed unsubstantiated health and wellness benefits including claims that the Company’s products could help consumers recover from cancer.  In addition, DSSRC was also concerned that the YouTube description conveyed the message that the Company product could also protect against COVID-19.

The company responded to DSSRC with a written reply and noted that the company has contacted YouTube to have the video removed. Accordingly, based upon the actions taken by the Company to disable the social media posts, this inquiry was administratively closed pursuant to the DSSRC Policy & Procedures.
