DSSRC Administrative Closure #179
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding four social media posts that DSSRC was concerned conveyed the message that the Company’s products were effective in treating several serious health-related conditions, such as Covid-19 and other viral infections. DSSRC was also concerned that one of the posts, made by an international representative of the Company, made income earnings claims that were not representative of the level of income that could be generally expected by salesforce members. The posts were identified by DSSRC pursuant to its ongoing, independent monitoring of the direct selling industry.
The company responded quickly by sending removal requests to the salesforce members responsible for the social media posts. The company provided DSSRC with updates on the Company’s internal process for finding and contacting the salesforce members responsible for the posts, and a copy of their correspondence with the international office regarding the international post. All four posts have been removed at the time of this closure.
Based on the Company’s immediate, good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
