DSSRC Administrative Closure #192
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding three social media posts disseminated by company salesforce members that communicated health-related product claims. In addition, DSSRC also inquired regarding certain earnings claims that appeared on the Company’s website as well as earnings claims disseminated by salesforce members on social media including Facebook and YouTube.
The company promptly responded to DSSRC’s concerns. Specifically, the Company was able to have the three social media posts containing health-related product claims discontinued. In addition, the company discontinued or modified the earnings claims that DSSRC had identified on the company’s website. With respect to the remaining claims, the Company provided DSSRC with documents demonstrating that it had sent notices to individuals responsible for disseminating the claims requesting that such claims be removed. The Company also suspended and/or terminated the salesforce members responsible for disseminating the posts. The Company also filed complaints with Facebook and YouTube requesting immediate removal of the claims.
As a result of the Company’s immediate, good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
