DSSRC Administrative Closure #36
DSSRC contacted a direct selling company regarding one earnings claim and one health related product claim disseminated on behalf of the company. The subject claims came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace. DSSRC expressed concern to the direct selling company that the earnings claim conveyed an unsubstantiated earning potential claim. In addition to the earnings claim, DSSRC expressed concern that the product claim conveyed unsubstantiated claims that the product can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other harmful bacteria and viruses.
The first post contained claims that there is no income limit one can earn, and that you can immediately begin earning money. The second post contained a claim that the company’s product can assist in purifying the air in a room to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other harmful bacteria and viruses. In addition the post claimed that the product can also help individuals with various respiratory illnesses such as COPD and asthma.
In response to being notified of the two claims, the company contacted the two independent distributors and had the posts removed. DSSRC expressed its appreciation to the Company for their efforts in removing the posts. Based upon the prompt actions taken by the Company to remove the posts, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
