DSSRC Administrative Closure #52

DSSRC contacted a direct selling company about four social media posts disseminated by its salesforce members. The subject social media posts came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace. Specifically, DSSRC expressed concern that the social media posts conveyed unsubstantiated product, health and wellness benefits that the Company’s direct selling products can protect against COVID-19.

The first three posts in question contained generic immunity boosting claims that the Company’s products can help boost your immune system. In addition to the immunity boosting claims, the posts added that by using the Company’s products to boost your immune system, you are also protecting yourself against COVID-19. The last post claimed that COVID-19 doesn’t like hot liquids and you can get rid of COVID-19 by drinking the Company’s hot tea.

In response to DSSRC’s inquiry, the Company was appreciative of DSSRC bringing these issues to their attention. The Company took prompt action in either removing the posts or modifying the posts to no longer contain any violations or improper product claims.

DSSRC expressed its appreciation to the Company for its efforts in removing the post. As a result of the prompt actions taken by the Company, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
