DSSRC Administrative Closure #58
DSSRC contacted a direct selling company about a social media post disseminated by a salesforce member. The subject social media post came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace. Specifically, DSSRC expressed concern that the social media post conveyed unsubstantiated product health and wellness benefit claims related to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The post in question asked the reader what they are doing to help protect them from COVID-19. The post went on to list various tips to protect yourself, including taking the Company’s products. The post alleged that the Company’s products could help boost your immune system and also protect you from COVID-19.
In response to the inquiry, the Company informed DSSRC that this post was flagged by their independent monitoring system and they were in the process of removing the post. The post was created by an independent distributor in a foreign market and the Company contacted that distributor’s local branch to have the post removed. The Company was successful in removing the post.
DSSRC expressed its appreciation to the Company for its efforts in removing the post. As a result of the prompt actions taken by the Company, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
