Laura Brett named Director, National Advertising Division
New York – Aug. 1, 2017 – The Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (ASRC) and Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB) today announced the appointment of new leadership for the National Advertising Division (NAD), an internationally recognized self-regulatory program that has served as a model for other self-regulatory efforts.
Laura Ulrich Brett has been named Director of the National Advertising Division (NAD). Policies and procedures for NAD are set by the ASRC. The ASRC self-regulatory system is administered by the CBBB.
Ms. Brett has served NAD since 2012, most recently as Assistant Director. In that role, Ms. Brett has helped position NAD as a leader in the review and analysis of advertising disclosures in digital formats, including native advertising. Prior to joining NAD, Ms. Brett worked in private practice, including at Willkie Farr & Gallagher’s litigation department and as a solo practitioner. She also has served as an elected member of the Rye, N.Y. City Council and as deputy mayor of Rye, N.Y. Ms. Brett has worked with a number of non-profit organizations and served as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Rye Historical Society. An accomplished author and speaker and an expert in the regulatory and self-regulatory issues surrounding digital advertising, Ms. Brett has represented NAD at Federal Trade Commission workshops and before audiences in the U.S., Mexico and Europe.
NAD was founded in 1971 as a unique industry-created forum to examine the truth and accuracy of advertising claims made in national advertising.
“The advertising industry self-regulatory system is nearing a half-century of excellent service to consumers and to industry in the United States. During that time, ASRC programs like the NAD have showcased the advertising industry’s consistent commitment to truth and accuracy in advertising,” said George K. H. Schell, ASRC Board Chair and immediate Past Chair of the CBBB Board of Directors.
“Ms. Brett brings to her new position a breadth of experience that will allow her to build on the success of NAD to meet the rapidly evolving challenges of the advertising industry,” said C. Lee Peeler, ASRC President and CEO, and EVP, National Advertising, CBBB. “She is committed to providing impartial oversight. It is a privilege to welcome her to her new role.”
