NAD Recommends All Health Systems Discontinue All Challenged Claims for Company’s ‘Big C’ Supplement, Including Implied Cancer-Prevention Claims

New York, NY – May 11,   2015 – The National Advertising Division has recommended that All Health Systems, LLC, discontinue challenged advertising claims for the company’s “Big C” dietary supplements, including any claims that state or suggest the supplement can be used to prevent, treat or manage cancer.  The advertiser has agreed to do so.

NAD is an investigative unit of the advertising industry system of self-regulation. It is administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

The claims at issue in this review were challenged by the Council for Responsible Nutrition and include:

  • “This is the most advanced product to help keep you your body stay in favorable conditions so that it may not get this terrible disease.”
  • “Research the 16 ingredients, they all have shown different positive results in battling cancer in various lab studies and may help. In combination, this is ground breaking.”
  • “As many as 70% of known causes of cancers are avoidable and are related to diet and lifestyle.”

NAD also considered whether the advertising claims implied that Big “C” can be used to prevent, treat or manage cancer.

The advertiser represented to NAD that the challenged claims would be permanently discontinued: “In the spirit of self-regulation, All Health Systems, LLC, agrees to take NAD’s recommendations into account in future advertising. The site has been offline for a malicious server issue, as soon as we can get into the site, the wording will be deleted.”

NAD noted in its decision that it appreciated the advertiser’s voluntarily undertaking to permanently discontinue the challenged claims.  Given the lack of evidence in the record, NAD found such action to be necessary and appropriate.
