DSSRC Administrative Closure #189
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding three social media posts disseminated by Company salesforce members. Two of the posts included the same copy which referenced the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant amount of income that two different Company salesforce members earned through the direct selling business opportunity. The third post was a YouTube video that included a salesforce testimonial regarding an atypical income that was realized by her work with the Company.
DSSRC expressed its concern that these three unqualified social media posts communicated unqualified claims of atypical earnings opportunities.
Shortly after DSSRC brought these claims to the attention of the Company, all three were removed or rendered active on their respective platforms.
As a result of the Company’s immediate, good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
