  • 5/18/2014 - Formal Review 33.2014 - SunTrust Bank, Inc.

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program (Accountability Program) today referred SunTrust Bank, Inc. (SunTrust) to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after SunTrust refused to participate in the advertising industry’s self-regulatory process. The Accountability Program uses this cooperative inquiry process to help companies understand and comply with the cross-industry Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising (OBA Principles).
  • 5/08/2014 - SunTrust Bank Referred to the CFPB for Refusal to Participate in Self-Regulation

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program (Accountability Program) today referred SunTrust Bank, Inc. (SunTrust) to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after SunTrust refused to participate in the advertising industry’s self-regulatory process.
  • 11/20/2013 - Accountability Program Instructs Advertiser, Agency, Platform to Work Together on AdChoices

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program released three decisions resolving inquiries into whether an online interest-based advertising campaign for 23andMe, Inc. provided Transparency and Consumer Control as required under the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising.
  • 11/18/2013 - Accountability Program Decisions Throw Spotlight on Website Operators’ Compliance

    Continuing its recent focus on website operators’ obligations under the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising, today the Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program released the results of formal inquiries into the practices of Scottrade, Inc. (Scottrade) and BMW of North America, LLC (BMW). 
  • 2/04/2013 - Accountability Program Brings AdChoices Icon to Facebook Exchange (FBX)

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program today released a decision finding that Facebook has taken meaningful steps to increase transparency and choice by enabling third parties to provide the Digital Advertising Alliance’s (DAA) Advertising Options Icon for interest-based ads served through Facebook Exchange (FBX).
  • 10/01/2012 - Accountability Program Looks Under Hood of Online Ad Campaign

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program today released five decisions following inquiries into whether an online interest-based advertising campaign for Kia Motors America was consistent with the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising (OBA Principles).
  • 5/30/2012 - Accountability Program: Self-Regulation Keeps Pace with Innovation

    The Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program today released the results of formal inquiries into the consumer data-collection and use practices of seven companies in the online advertising industry. All companies reviewed voluntarily agreed to follow the Accountability Program’s recommendations.
  • 11/08/2011 - Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program: QuinStreet, Inc.

    On August 16, 2011, the Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program tested the functionality of the consumer choice mechanism provided in the company’s privacy policy using five Internet browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari. 

  • 11/08/2011 - Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program: Martini Media

    In response to the Accountability Program’s inquiry, the company, Martini Media, acknowledged that the opt-out cookie delivered to the consumer’s browser contained an expiration date of less than six months from the date of the opt-out request.  

  • 11/08/2011 - Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program: Veruta/MyBuys, Inc.

    The Accountability Program finds that Veruta was not compliant with the Consumer Control Principle because it failed to exercise reasonable care to ensure that its consumer choice mechanism was functioning properly.
