Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council Recommends Saladmaster Discontinue Certain Earnings Claims
McLean, VA – November 20, 2025 – The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) of BBB National Programs recommended that Saladmaster, Inc. modify or discontinue certain earnings claims shared by salesforce members on Facebook and LinkedIn.
The advertising claims were made by Saladmaster, a direct selling company offering a range of stainless-steel cookware, including pots, skillets, and roasters. This inquiry, which included 10 claims, was commenced by DSSRC through its ongoing independent monitoring of advertising and marketing claims in the direct selling industry.
In this case, DSSRC was concerned that the subject claims communicated the message that Saladmaster salesforce members can generally expect to earn significant income from the Saladmaster business opportunity.
The earnings claims at issue include, but are not limited to:
Upon receiving the inquiry, Saladmaster did not attempt to substantiate the earnings claims and instead, took immediate action to address DSSRC’s concerns. Saladmaster was able to work with its salesforce members to remove four posts, modify three, and communicated to DSSRC that the remaining three posts, still available to the public, were made by inactive salesforce members.
Regarding the modified claims, DSSRC determined that one was satisfactorily addressed but remained concerned that the two other revised posts, that were edited to replace “a full-fledged career” with the modified phrasing “Ready to cook up a new career?” did not fully resolve the concern that participation in the Saladmaster business opportunity could be perceived as a new career path or a means of earning substantial or replacement income.
Accordingly, DSSRC recommended that the two modified posts be further revised to remove any references implying that the Saladmaster business opportunity offers “a new career” or comparable income potential to more accurately reflect the opportunity as a part-time or supplemental income activity consistent with typical participant outcomes.
Regarding the claims made by inactive salesforce members, Saladmaster confirmed to DSSRC that it a) attempted to contact the individuals responsible for the posts, but was unsuccessful; b) reported the posts directly to Facebook, and; c) included comments to the posts notifying the public that the claims violate Company policy and were unauthorized.
DSSRC appreciated Saladmaster’s good faith effort to contact the inactive salesforce members to try and facilitate the removal of the posts.
In its statement, Saladmaster said that it “appreciates the opportunity to respond to the DSSRC’s inquiry” and that it “will fully comply with the DSSRC’s recommendations.”
