Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council Recommends Vivint Modify Certain Earnings Claims
McLean, VA – February 12, 2026 – The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) of BBB National Programs recommended that Vivint Smart Home, Inc. take additional steps to discontinue certain earnings claims on social media.
The advertising claims were made by Vivint, a smart home technology company that offers professionally installed and monitored smart home systems. This inquiry, which included 15 claims, was commenced by DSSRC through its ongoing independent monitoring of advertising and marketing claims in the direct selling industry.
In this case, DSSRC was concerned that the subject claims communicated the message that Vivant salesforce members can generally expect to earn significant income from the Vivant business opportunity. These claims were disseminated on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube.
The earnings claims at issue include, but are not limited to:
Upon receiving the inquiry, Vivint voluntarily removed 10 of the 15 posts identified by DSSRC and was able to get another post modified to address DSSRC’s concerns.
Notwithstanding, DSSRC remains concerned that several of the social media posts remain publicly accessible and convey messages that participants in the Vivint business opportunity typically earn significant income and/or attain financial freedom.
Vivint attempted to contact the salesforce members responsible for the claims, including inactive salesforce members, but was unsuccessful. DSSRC acknowledges Vivint’s good-faith efforts to contact the relevant individuals responsible for the posts and seek modification or removal but recommends Vivint take the additional step of contacting the social media platforms on which the posts appeared, including Facebook and YouTube, to advise them that the claims were not authorized and to request removal of the content.
In its statement, Vivint said it “appreciates the opportunity to have participated in this self regulatory review process alongside the DSSRC and remain committed to ensuring that all claims and representations made about our business are accurate and compliant with applicable standards. The Company also stated that it will “… continue to review and refine our processes to help ensure all future company representatives adhere to applicable standards.”
