DSSRC Administrative Closure #146

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding various social media posts disseminated by company salesforce members on Facebook. The subject claims which involved earnings claims regarding the amount of income that can be realized by the Company’s business opportunity, came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace.

DSSRC expressed concern to the direct selling company that the earnings claims conveyed unsubstantiated expectations regarding the amount of income that could be earned working at the Company. One claim inquired whether persons were “tired of living paycheck to paycheck;” while another, inquired “what persons would do with an extra paycheck every month.”

In response to the DSSRC’s inquiry, the Company promptly contacted the salesforce member that made the social media post and had the post removed. Based upon the Company’s good faith actions to address the concerns of DSSRC, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
