DSSRC Administrative Closure #200

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding six Facebook posts that DSSRC was concerned communicated the message that the Company’s products are effective in treating a number of serious health conditions including arthritis, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney stones, and helps with weight loss. The posts were identified by DSSRC pursuant to its ongoing, independent monitoring of the direct selling industry.

The company promptly responded to DSSRC’s notice of inquiry and noted that it takes these matters very seriously. The Company’s Compliance Support Team immediately contacted the salesforce members who disseminated the non-compliant posts and also contacted Facebook directly. All six posts have been removed from circulation and the Company informed DSSRC that the salesforce members received warnings as well as official documentation on what can and cannot be posted. The Company is also taking further action to educate salesforce members on the importance of abiding by the medical and drug claim procedures by: (1) implementing more stringent protocols for monitoring posts, and (2) reminding salesforce members to review the document available to them that explains guidelines for making medical and drug claims.

Based on the Company’s good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
