DSSRC Administrative Closure #31

Facebook posts disseminated by distributors for a direct selling company came to the attention of DSSRC pursuant to its monitoring program. One post referenced the corona virus and claimed that its products could act as an immune system booster. A second post stated that the Company’s products will help protect against Covid-19 and the corona virus. As DSSRC noted to the Company, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and the Food Drug Administration have all stated that there are no approved vaccines, drugs or investigational products currently available to treat or prevent COVID-19.

After receipt of the inquiry, the Company immediately contacted DSSRC and explained that the Company has a very aggressive compliance campaign to address and remove unauthorized claims, especially those related to coronavirus. The Company informed DSSRC that the distributors responsible for the posts were located outside of the United States and that the posts were promptly removed twenty-four hours after the distributors were contacted. Accordingly, DSSRC independently confirmed that the two posts are no longer available on Facebook.

Based upon detailed information provided by the Company regarding its internal compliance process and the immediate actions taken by the Company to address and remove the claims, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
