DSSRC Administrative Closure #137
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding two social media posts disseminated by Company sales force members on Twitter and Facebook. The subject claims and social media posts came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace.
DSSRC was concerned that the health-related claims conveyed unsubstantiated health and wellness benefits including claims that referred to the efficacy of the Company’s products to treat several serious health conditions including cancer, diabetes and COVID-19. After receiving DSSRC’s inquiry, the claims were soon disabled thereafter.
Based upon the Company’s good faith actions to address the concerns of DSSRC, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
