DSSRC Administrative Closure #164

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) brought three Facebook posts containing product claims to the attention of a direct selling company (the “Company”). The posts were disseminated by salesforce members of the Company and were identified by DSSRC pursuant to its ongoing, independent monitoring of the direct selling industry.

All three of the social media posts were disseminated by salesforce members located overseas. Two of the of three posts originated from the United Kingdom and included claims that the Company’s line of products would be efficacious against serious health related conditions including, but not limited to, depression, infertility, Crohn’s disease, and diverticulitis. The third post originated in Germany and stated that the Company’s product could effectively lower cholesterol, boost the immunity system, control blood pressure, and prevent cardiovascular disease.

The Company immediately responded to DSSRC’s inquiry and reached out to its affiliates in Europe. The three posts were disabled within five days after they were brought to the attention of the Company.

Based upon the Company’s prompt, good faith actions to address the concerns of DSSRC, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
