DSSRC Administrative Closure #196
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding five Facebook posts that DSSRC was concerned communicated unsubstantiated health and wellness benefits claims that the Company’s products can protect against health-related conditions including COVID-19. The posts were identified by DSSRC pursuant to its ongoing, independent monitoring of the direct selling industry.
The company promptly responded to DSSRC’s notice of inquiry and investigated the non-compliant posts. The Company stated that certain posts were under the ownership and control of foreign salesforce members and foreign subsidiaries and subsequently informed their foreign colleagues of the issue. In addition, the Company made reports and complaints to Facebook directly to remove the non-compliant posts. All posts have now been removed.
Based on the Company’s good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
