DSSRC Administrative Closure #320

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) contacted a direct selling company (“Company”) regarding certain earnings claims that were disseminated on social media by the Company’s salesforce members. The claims at issue originated from three (3) posts disseminated on LinkedIn. DSSRC contacted the Company and expressed concern that these posts communicated statements that could be reasonably interpreted by consumers as meaning that they can expect to earn significant earnings from the Company’s business opportunity.

More specifically, the posts included claims suggesting consumers could “ditch their job altogether” and make a “career change.” Each post also claimed the Company’s business opportunity provided “unlimited income potential.”

The Company responded to DSSRC on the same day that it received the Notice of Inquiry and agreed to contact the salesforce members to remove the posts. The Company was able to have all three posts removed within 48 hours of being contacted by DSSRC.

DSSRC determined that the Company used its best efforts to address the concerns in this inquiry and, based upon these actions, the inquiry was administratively closed.
