DSSRC Administrative Closure #336

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) contacted a direct selling company ("Company") that markets hemp and CBD products regarding eight earnings claims and four product claims disseminated on social media. DSSRC was concerned that the claims conveyed messages suggesting that potential salesforce members of the Company could achieve significant income, unlimited income, “financial freedom” and/or earn or be able to afford family vacations through participation in the Company's business opportunity. DSSRC was also concerned that the claims conveyed messages that the Company’s products could treat or alleviate symptoms of health-related conditions such as joint pain and anxiety. This inquiry was initiated by DSSRC as part of its continuous independent monitoring of product and income claims. The claims were disseminated on Facebook and Instagram.

The Company promptly responded to the inquiry. In its initial response to DSSRC, the Company demonstrated to DSSRC that all of the claims at issue in this inquiry had been taken down or edited to remove the language of concern in the social media post.

DSSRC appreciated the Company prompt, good faith efforts to adequately address DSSRC’s concerns in this inquiry. Accordingly, the inquiry was administratively closed.
