DSSRC Administrative Closure #64
DSSRC contacted a direct selling company about three social media post disseminated by salesforce members. The social media posts came to DSSRC’s attention pursuant to its independent monitoring of advertising in the direct selling marketplace. Specifically, DSSRC expressed concern that the social media posts conveyed unsubstantiated product health and wellness benefit claims related to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The first post referenced increased immune support in 20 days during the coronavirus pandemic. The second post referenced immune system support while the coronavirus is all around us. The last post referenced the viruses that all around us and included a coronavirus protection hashtag.
After contacting the Company, DSSRC was informed that the salesforce members responsible for the posts were all outside of the United States. Nevertheless, the Company reached out to the distributors and had the posts removed. In addition, the Company re-emphasized its position that of having zero-tolerance for any references to COVID-19 or the pandemic.
DSSRC expressed its appreciation to the Company for its efforts in removing the post. As a result of the prompt actions taken by the Company, DSSRC administratively closed the inquiry.
