DSSRC Administrative Closure #93
The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) brought two Facebook posts to the attention of a direct selling company (“Company”) which included claims from salesforce members that the Company’s product can treat the coronavirus. More specifically, the first post stated that the Company’s product helps boost the immune system to fight viruses all around us including the coronavirus. The second Facebook post referenced COVID-19, the importance of having a strong immune system and that stated that the Company’s product is the right product to boost the immune system. DSSRC noted that at the time the posts were disseminated, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and the Food Drug Administration had stated that there were no approved vaccines, drugs or investigational products available to treat or prevent COVID-19.
The Company immediately contacted the salesforce members responsible for the posts and had the posts removed within 48 hours after being contacted by DSSRC. DSSRC acknowledged the Company’s prompt, good faith actions to remove the posts and administratively closed the inquiry pursuant to section 2(II)(6) of the DSSRC Procedures.
