DSSRC Administrative Closure #210

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (“DSSRC”) contacted a direct selling company (the “Company”) regarding fourteen social media posts that DSSRC was concerned communicated the message that the Company’s products were effective in treating a number of serious health conditions including, but not limited to, COVID-19, heart disease, migraines, osteoporosis, and stress. The posts were identified by DSSRC pursuant to its ongoing, independent monitoring of the direct selling industry.

The Company responded to DSSRC’s notice of inquiry within twenty-four hours and immediately took action to remove the non-compliant posts from circulation by contacting the relevant salesforce members (several of which were located overseas). The Company consulted with internal compliance team members as well as the DSSRC on the appropriate way fix future posts in order to be compliant. All posts have been removed from circulation or modified to exclude the claims at issue.

Based on the Company’s good faith actions to address DSSRC’s concerns, DSSRC administratively closed this inquiry.
