Blip Toys to Revise TV Commercial for ‘Yummy Nummies’ to Better Disclose Need for Microwave, Depict Adult Supervision

New York, NY – Aug. 20, 2015 – Blip Toys has said it will revise broadcast advertising for certain of the company’s “Yummy Nummies” products to better disclose that some products require use of a microwave oven and to depict adult supervision, action that the Children’s Advertising Review Unit has determined was necessary.

CARU is an investigative unit of the advertising industry system of self-regulation. It is administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

A television advertisement for “Yummy Nummies Mini Kitchen Magic” came to CARU’s attention through CARU’s routine monitoring of advertising directed to children.
Yummy Nummies products are advertised as “no bake” miniature treats, although certain products in the Yummy Nummies line require use of a microwave oven.

Following its initial review of the advertising at issue, CARU was concerned that the advertiser did not disclose the need for a microwave. Further, CARU noted, adult supervision is recommended when children use a microwave.

Upon receipt of CARU’s inquiry, the advertiser said it would modify the commercial to include a clear depiction of a microwave oven with a parent prominently supervising its use.

The company, in its advertiser’s statement, said it appreciated CARU “bringing this to our attention so that we could correct it immediately. All advertising going forward will include the changes that CARU requested and approved.”
