12/16/2019 - NARB Recommends Native Cosmetics Discontinue Moisture Absorption and Underarm Wetness Protection Claims for Native Deodorant
A panel of the National Advertising Review Board (NARB) has found that Zenlen Inc. d/b/a Native Cosmetics (Native) failed to provide a reasonable basis for two related claims made by Native – that Native deodorants “absorb” underarm wetness and provide effective protection against wetness, and recommended that such claims be discontinued. The advertising at issue had been challenged by Tom’s of Maine, maker of competing deodorant products, before the National Advertising Division (NAD), an investigative unit of the advertising industry’s system of self-regulation. Following NAD’s decision, Native appealed to the NARB, the appellate unit of the advertising industry’s system of self-regulation. -
12/13/2019 - NAD Finds Verizon “First to 5G” Claim Supported, But Recommends Modification to Disclosure as Long as Service is More Unavailable Than Available
The National Advertising Division determined that Verizon substantiated its “First to 5G” claim, however it recommended modification to the disclosures used to qualify the claim, as long as the service is more unavailable than available. -

12/12/2019 - BBB National Programs National Advertising Division Recommends that Traeger Pellet Grills Discontinue Falsely Denigrating Taste Claims For Food Cooked on Propane Gas Grills
The National Advertising Division has determined that Traeger Pellet Grills LLC’s claims that food cooked on a propane grill “tastes like gas” (or “tastes like ass”) were not puffery, but, rather, unsupported objectively provable (and falsely denigrating) taste claims and recommended that they be discontinued. -
12/11/2019 - BBB National Programs National Advertising Division Refers Advertising Claims Made by Zero Gravity to Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Food and Drug Administration
The National Advertising Division has referred advertising claims made by Zero Gravity for its Perfectio line of medical devices to the Federal Trade Commission for further review. The advertiser did not respond to NAD’s requests to provide substantiation for its claims.

The National Advertising Division has determined that the challenged claim, “3 Egg Whites / [Number][Nut/Legume] / 2 Dates / No B.S.,” as it appears in standardized format on the front label of RXBARs, communicates the supported message that those ingredients are in RXBARs, and does not reasonably convey misleading implied claims about weight and proportions of the protein bar inside. It also found that the claim “3 Egg Whites” was not misleading as to the form of egg whites in the bar. -
