5/09/2018 - CARU Recommends Anki Make Clear to Children that Racing Game Requires Smart Device for Play
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) has recommended that Anki add audio disclosure to future broadcast advertising for the company’s “Anki Overdrive: Fast and Furious Edition,” a mobile application-based racing game, to assure children understand that play with the race track and cars requires that users download the app to an iOS or Android device. -
5/08/2018 - NAD Recommends Doskocil Discontinue Certain Anti-Microbial Claims for Petmate Cat Litter Pans, Advertiser to Appeal
The National Advertising Division has recommended that Doskocil Manufacturing Company, Inc., doing business as Petmate, discontinue challenged advertising claims for the company’s Petmate Cat Litter Pans, including claims that the pans have “built-in antimicrobial protection.” The advertiser said it would appeal NAD’s adverse findings to the National Advertising Review Board (NARB). -
4/27/2018 - NAD Finds Line Claim in Ads for Perdue’s Organic Chicken Brand, Recommends Advertiser Modify, Discontinue Broadcast, YouTube Spots; Perdue to Appeal
The National Advertising Division has recommended that Perdue Farms, Inc., modify or discontinue broadcast and YouTube ads for the company’s Harvestland Organic sub-brand, following its finding that the advertising at issue reasonably conveyed the message that all Perdue chickens are raised using organic farming methods. -
4/27/2018 - NAD Recommends SharkNinja Discontinue ‘Better/Best Overall’ Bare Floor Cleaning Claims for Shark ‘Powered Lift-Away’ Vacuum Following Dyson Challenge
The National Advertising Division has recommended that SharkNinja LLC discontinue claims that the company’s Powered Lift-Away Speed vacuum offers best or better overall bare floor cleaning, following NAD’s finding that SharkNinja’s testing was not a good fit for the challenged claim. -
4/26/2018 - CARU Recommends Kudos Modify Privacy Practices to Better Protect Children’s Privacy, Company Agrees to Do So
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) has recommended that Kudos & Co., modify its privacy practices to bring them into compliance with CARU’s Self-Regulatory Program for Children’s Advertising – including CARU’s privacy guidelines – and the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). -
4/24/2018 - CARU Refers Musical.ly to FTC After App Operator Declines to Comply with CARU’s Privacy Recommendations
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has referred The Musical.ly Inc., operator of the Musical.ly mobile application, to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), after the company said it would not comply with CARU’s recommendations regarding children’s privacy. -
4/24/2018 - NAD Refers Advertising for That’s Natural’s CBD Hemp Oil to FTC, FDA for Further Review
The National Advertising Division has referred advertising claims made by That’s Natural, Ltd., to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for further review, after the company failed to respond to NAD’s request to provide substantiation the advertising claim that CBD Hemp Oil “makes cancer cells commit ‘suicide’ without killing other cells.” -
4/20/2018 - NARB Recommends Too Faced Cosmetics Discontinue ‘1,944% More Volume’ Claim for Better Than Sex Mascara
A panel of the National Advertising Review Board has recommended that Too Faced Cosmetics, LLC, discontinue the “1,944% more volume” claim – and before and after photographs – made on product packaging and online videos for the company’s Better Than Sex original and waterproof mascara. -
4/19/2018 - NAD Recommends LG Discontinue ‘Ultimate’ Picture Quality Claim and False Disparagement Claims Following Samsung Challenge; LG to Appeal
The National Advertising Division has recommended that LG Electronics USA, Inc. modify or discontinue certain claims made in website, print and point-of-purchase advertising for LG’s Super UHD and OLED television, including claims that competitor Samsung Electronics America, Inc., created the product name “Samsung QLED” to “confuse consumers.” -
4/17/2018 - NAD Recommends Comcast Discontinue Messages that Convey DirecTV Customers Face Unavoidable Price Hikes with DirecTV Choice Promotional Offer
The National Advertising Division has recommended that Comcast Cable Communications LLC, discontinue advertising that states or suggests DirecTV Choice customers will be subjected to unavoidable, substantial, and undisclosed built-in price increases when signing up for DirecTV Choice programming.
