10/25/2017 - CARU Refers Dave & Buster’s to FTC After Company Declines to Participate in CARU Process
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has referred advertising claims made by Dave & Busters Entertainment, Inc. to the Federal Trade Commission after the company failed to respond to CARU’s inquiry concerning broadcast advertising that promoted the company’s “free video game play.” -
10/18/2017 - CARU Examines YouTube Channel ‘Ryan Toys Review,’ Recommends More Prominent Disclosures of Ad Content
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has determined that certain content featured on at “Ryan Toys Review,” a popular YouTube Channel aimed at children, is advertising and that such content should be clearly identified as advertising to the child audience. -
10/18/2017 - CARU Recommends WhatNot Toys, Featured at Ryan Toys Review, Take Steps to Better Protect Children’s Privacy, Company Agrees to Do So
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has recommended that WhatNot Toys, Inc., which advertises at the YouTube channel “Ryan Toys Review,” put in place privacy practices that are compliant with CARU’s guidelines and federal law. -
9/12/2017 - CARU Recommends Mattel Modify Barbie Sparkle Blast App to Better Disclose In-App Advertising; Company Does So
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has recommended that Mattel, Inc., modify its Barbie Sparkle Blast mobile application to better disclose to a child audience the company’s in-app advertising. Mattel has done so. -
9/12/2017 - CARU Refers Game Publisher UCool to FTC After Company Declines to Participate in CARU Process
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has referred video game publisher UCool to the Federal Trade Commission after the company failed to respond to CARU’s inquiry concerning UCool’s “Heroes Arena” mobile application. -
8/11/2017 - CARU Recommends Redwood Ventures Depict Adult Supervision in Advertising for ‘IDO3D’ Pen; Company to Comply
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has recommended that Redwood Ventures clearly depict adult supervision in advertising for the company’s “IDO3D” pen. Following its review of the company’s advertising, CARU also determined that the advertising adequately communicated to children the nature of the product and the variety of product sets and colors. CARU further determined that the product operated as advertised. -
7/12/2017 - CARU Refers Genesis Toys, Maker of Cayla ‘Connected’ Doll, to FTC After Company Fails to Respond to Privacy Inquiry
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has referred Genesis Toys, the maker of “My Friend Cayla Party Time” doll and the operator of an accompanying app and website, to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for further review, after the company failed to provide a substantive response to CARU initial privacy inquiry. -
6/08/2017 - Ontel Discontinues Certain Claims for Dream Tents Following CARU Inquiry
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit has recommended that Ontel Products discontinue broadcast advertising for the company’s “Dream Tents,” to avoid stating that the product helps alleviate childhood fears of the dark and encourages more restful sleep. The company has done so. -
5/11/2017 - DirecTV to Offer New Movie Preview Channel with Child-Appropriate Content Following CARU Inquiry
DirecTV which owns and operates DirecTV Cinema, a pay-per-view streaming movie service, said it will create a new movie preview channel that will feature only movies and other content appropriate for children, following an inquiry by the Children’s Advertising Review Unit.
