2/11/2016 - NAD Recommends Charter Communications Discontinue Broadcast Spot, Certain Advertising Claims Challenged by DirecTV
The National Advertising Division has recommended Charter Communications, Inc., discontinue one broadcast commercial and certain advertising claims made in two other broadcast spots that all convey the message that DirecTV LLC’s satellite service doesn’t work when precipitation is present. -
2/10/2016 - NAD Finds Reckitt Benckiser Ad for ‘Mucinex Fast-Max Liquid Gels’ Doesn’t Disparage P&G Product, but Recommends Modification to Spot
The National Advertising Division has recommended that Reckitt Benckiser, Inc., modify broadcast advertising for the company’s Mucinex Fast-Max Liquid Gels product to more clearly indicate to consumers that the company is comparing its product to other name-brand products. -
2/09/2016 - NAD Recommends Church & Dwight Discontinue ‘Scary Bleach’ Commercial, Noting Need for Independent Substantiation of Ad Claims
The National Advertising Division has recommended that Church & Dwight Co., Inc., the maker of OxiClean White Revive, discontinue a commercial entitled “Scary Bleach,” that featured advertising claims based on the content of federally mandated garment care labels. NAD also recommended that C&D modify a second commercial to remove words like “worry” and “warning” when referring to garment care labels and avoid conveying a message that chlorine bleach is damaging to white garments. -
2/09/2016 - CARU Recommends DorkDiaries.com Modify Website to Better Comply with Guidelines, COPPA
Rachel Renée Russell, author and operator of the website DorkDiaries.com, said the site has revised its privacy practices following an inquiry from the Children’s Advertising Review Unit. -
2/08/2016 - NARB Recommends Comcast Discontinue ‘Fastest Internet,’ ‘Fastest … In-Home Wi-Fi’ Claims
A panel of the National Advertising Review Board (NARB) has recommended that Comcast Communications, Inc., discontinue certain claims for the company’s XFINITY service, including claims that XFINITY “delivers the fastest internet in America,” and the “fastest in-home WiFi.” -
1/28/2016 - NAD Refers Claims Made by ‘Nature Works Best Cancer Clinic’ to FTC, FDA for Review after Advertiser Declines to Participate
The National Advertising Division has referred advertising claims made by Nature Works Best Cancer Clinic to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after the advertiser declined to participate in the NAD process. -
1/27/2016 - NARB Recommends Novartis/GSK Discontinue Claim that Benefiber ‘Helps Maintain Regularity’
A panel of the National Advertising Review Board has recommended that Novartis Consumer Health, Inc., now a GSK Consumer Healthcare Company, discontinue the claim, made in television and print ads, that its dietary supplement product Benefiber “Helps Maintain Regularity.” -
1/20/2016 - NAD Recommends American Dryer Discontinue Claims Challenged by Kimberly-Clark, Including ‘Germ Killing’ Claims
The National Advertising Division has recommended that American Dryer, Inc., discontinue challenged advertising claims for the company’s ExtremeAir CPC Commercial Jet Air Hand Dryers, including claims that state or imply the product kills pathogens such as E. Coli, Influenza A, Staph and others. The claims at issue were challenged by Kimberly-Clark Corporation. -
1/20/2016 - CARU Recommends Skechers Discontinue Implied Claim for ‘Skech-Air’ Shoes’
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CARU) has recommended that Skechers USA modify broadcast advertising for the company’s Skech-Air shoes to avoid suggesting wearing the shoes will allow a child to bounce or jump high. -
1/15/2016 - CARU Recommends JAKKS Modify Broadcast Ad for Mario Kart to Better Disclose Toy’s Capabilities
The Children’s Advertising Review Unit of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CARU) has recommended that JAKKS Pacific, Inc., modify television advertising for its Mario Kart 8 Anti-Gravity RC Racer to better disclose that the toy does not make racecar sounds.
